Wearing merino comes with its advantages
I used to get sick every winter until I discovered the magic of base layers. These base layer bottoms by Wool & Prince are perfect to wear under any outfit and provide the right amount of thermal regulation. Whether I’m at the office, or going for a jog out in the cold, these are the perfect addition to my wear.
They are very comfortable and soft.
Having heard how comfortable and warm leggings are from women in my life for years, I can now attest to it myself. I received Midweight Baselayer Leggings shortly before the rest of the country froze for Christmas, and while it didn't get quite as cold here in New Mexico as it did in my native Iowa, I was glad to have them. I've worn them on 3 hikes now under a pair of pants and stayed comfortably warm (and not sweating hot) in 20-50°F temperatures. I wear them without underwear and the material, fit, and temperature regulating properties of the wool-spandex blend fall in to the Goldilocks zone for me. Not too tight, not too loose, not to hot, not too cold, just right.
I was initially concerned about wearing them to bed as I usually wake up a sweaty mess if I sleep in anything more than a pair of sweatpants and a tee-shirt. I've now worn these to bed a 3-4 times under light sweatpants on a particularly cold evening and woken up comfortably warm in the morning. I can't recommend them enough for people looking for a warm baselayer, whether they are out adventuring or cuddled up at home.
My midweight baselayer leggings arrived the day before Mother Nature dropped 50" of snow in 48 hours across South Central Alaska. With a dumping like that even Alaskan schools take a snow day, so my regular duties as School Resource Officer were shifted to patrolling snowy roads for stranded motorists.
Now one thing we northerners excel at is layering for outdoor activities. Therefore, I augmented my regular uniform with these leggings underneath and was very pleased with the result. The 10% spandex provided an unexpected amount of compression and support, while the 86% wool gave that all day comfort as wool does. These leggings went to work with me all week long stayed with me into the weekend.
I'm not a shy guy about wearing my wool for extended periods. My Wool&Prince t-shirt has been on my back every day for 14 months. These leggings went 8 days before they took a bath in the kitchin sink. There was no noticeable odor or decrease in performance over the week. As expected the leggings air dryed quickly at room temperature.
After the snow settled in, the temps bottomed out and I decided to deploy these leggings under my kilt in -26°F. Again, they performed as well if not better than I expected. They feel like a second layer of skin.
I guess the biggest problem with leggings is photographing them as they are worn under outerwear. Problem solved.
My leggings arrived the Friday before Christmas and I used them twice over the past weekend. First on a hike to a quarry in 5-degree weather and again the next day (20 degrees) to play outdoor paddle tennis. I was very comfortable in both instances, not cold and not hot. On the hike I wore a pair of spandex underwear beneath them, for outdoor tennis, I wore nothing under them - I didn't notice a difference either way. I plan on wearing them the next time I go skiing. No video of the leggings, but I threw up one from the hike - it was a chilly/windy day - I highly recommend the product!
Got these just before the the Christmas blizzard of 22. Kept me warm the next day when the temp went to -3 f. Would recommend.
