I recently pulled the trigger on a ~$2,000 bandsaw from Harvey Woodworking on Black Friday. I love the bandsaw, but hate the company's pricing tactics. They adjust their prices and promotions daily. A couple weeks after I purchased the bandsaw, the price of the bandsaw was $150 cheaper than what I paid on Black Friday. That’s annoying…
At Wool&Prince, we’re committed to simple, everyday pricing and transparency around the few promotions we do run. This creates a more respectful relationship with our customers instead of gimmicky promotional messaging like “this won’t last long”, “don’t wait”, “biggest deal of the year”, or “best price ever”. If you want to geek out on “Non-coercive marketing” read this piece.
Everyday pricing—aside from being something I personally value —helps our business too. Frequently changing prices is labor intensive and spikey order volume puts unnecessary strain on our warehouse and customer service teams. Additionally, we want customers and prospective customers to have confidence in our prices every day of the week.
In a perfect world, we’d never run a single promotion. However, we need a way to incentivize purchases of older colors, fits or styles, so we have a modest retiring section on our site. We also have evergreen concepts like buy 2+ and save (warehouse/shipping efficiencies), bundles on select items (slower sellers or new product traction), and a gift with purchase in November (customer appreciation).
I'm curious how you shop:
Do you prefer shopping with brands that run frequent promotions (vs brands that don’t)?
